Eight Indonesian Hajj Pilgrims Pass Away: Government Ensures Their Rights Are Honored

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Indonesia’s Ministry of Religious Affairs has confirmed the deaths of eight prospective Hajj pilgrims as of Saturday, assuring the public that all their rights will be fully honored.

During a press briefing streamed online on Saturday, Muhammad Zain, the Director of Domestic Hajj Services, extended his condolences to the families of the deceased pilgrims on behalf of the government.

“Funeral services have been arranged for all the deceased pilgrims,” Zain stated.

The Ministry also confirmed that all Indonesian Hajj pilgrims in the Holy Land are covered by life and accident insurance. In addition, the government has guaranteed that the religious obligations of the deceased pilgrims will be fulfilled. Officers will be appointed to perform badal hajj (Hajj-by-proxy) on behalf of the deceased.

As of the 10th day of departures, a total of 158 flight groups, comprising 61,404 pilgrims, have been dispatched to Saudi Arabia via three airlines. On Saturday alone, 21 flight groups with 8,261 pilgrims were scheduled to depart.

Zain emphasized that the government will continue to provide regular updates on the ongoing Hajj pilgrimage and urged the public to pray for a smooth and safe pilgrimage season this year.

Meanwhile, the Hajj Implementation Committee (PPIH) confirmed that all arrangements have been made to accommodate Indonesian pilgrims in Mecca, including provisions for lodging, transportation, and meals.

A total of 20 hotels have been secured for the pilgrims’ stay, with officials conducting rigorous inspections to ensure that all facilities meet the required standards. (BL/ANTARA)
