Prabowo Encourages Chinese Investment in Indonesia’s Tech and Downstream Sectors

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara (May 24, 2025), President Prabowo Subianto has invited Chinese entrepreneurs to invest in Indonesia, highlighting not only the importance of natural resource downstreaming but also the critical role of science and technology in the nation’s development.

Speaking at the Indonesia-China Business Reception in Jakarta on Saturday, an event attended by Chinese Premier Li Qiang, President Prabowo extended a warm invitation to Chinese investors to expand their ventures in Indonesia across various sectors.

“I encourage Chinese entrepreneurs to continue investing in Indonesia, not just in downstreaming natural resources, but also in education, healthcare, tourism, and especially in science and technology,” the President stated.

Prabowo emphasized that the economic relationship between Indonesia and China is not only a long-term strategic partnership but one that brings mutual benefits to both nations and the wider Asian region.

He noted that the collaboration between the two countries has already resulted in significant projects, such as the construction of the Jakarta-Bandung high-speed train and an industrial zone focused on nickel downstreaming.

With China being Indonesia’s largest trading partner, with annual trade exceeding 130 billion US dollars, Prabowo acknowledged the importance of China’s role in the development of Indonesia’s industries and technology.

At the same time, the President called for investment diversification, stressing that Indonesia’s future lies in accelerating sectors that add significant value and have a direct social impact.

“I invite Indonesian entrepreneurs to view China as a learning partner, a production partner, and a collaborative partner as we enter global markets together,” Prabowo added.

He also took a moment to express his respect and appreciation for China’s ongoing support of developing countries, including Indonesia.

“I want to extend my respect to the people of China for their steadfast support of developing nations, their consistent opposition to oppression, imperialism, colonialism, and apartheid,” he concluded. (BL)
