Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, The Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology, Brian Yuliarto, has highlighted three key roles universities must play in society: producing high-quality human resources, advancing research and innovation, and providing practical solutions to community needs.
The minister made these remarks during a visit to Fakfak State Polytechnic (Polinef) in West Papua on Friday, July 4.
“Institutions like Polinef should act as drivers of regional economic growth. This can be achieved by enhancing the vocational education ecosystem, fostering active partnerships with both industry and government, and creating an inclusive academic culture,” he stated in a press release from Jakarta on Sunday.
Minister Brian emphasized that these functions will only be successful with strong and collaborative campus management.
He urged all universities to position themselves as community hubs, promoting values of character and knowledge that benefit the surrounding areas.

The minister expressed confidence that students in Fakfak have the potential to be key players in development, rather than mere bystanders.
“Having top-tier human resources is essential to attract investment. We must seize this opportunity for growth. Vocational education is the quickest path to building a productive and competitive Indonesia,” he said.
Meanwhile, Fakfak District Head Samaun Dahlan reaffirmed the local government’s commitment to supporting Polinef’s development as a center for producing skilled and professional graduates.
He expressed hope that programs focused on oil, gas, and marine resources would provide local students with solid pathways to enter the industrial workforce.
