Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Anies Baswedan has just been declared by the Democratic Party as their presidential candidate for 2024 based on an agreement from the party’s high council. Adi Prayitno, the Executive Director of Indonesia’s Political Parameter (PPI), said that the Anies-AHY duo signal is growing stronger.

“The signs of the Anies-AHY duo are getting stronger. There are two indications. First, Anies has stated that he is ready to sail together. Second, the Democrats would not declare their support if the discussion of the vice-presidential candidate is not clear,” Adi said when contacted on Thursday (3/2/2023).
Adi said that Anies has no other choice but to choose AHY as his running mate in the 2024 presidential election. Even Ahmad Heryawan (Aher) and Khofifah Indar Parawansa are less likely to be Anies’ running mates, according to him.
“After all, who else would Anies want to team up with besides AHY? The PKS party has already shown a willingness to be flexible, even tending to be humble, no longer insisting on supporting Aher. Khofifah, who was once considered, seems uninterested in being a vice-presidential candidate and tends to want to run again in the East Java Gubernatorial Election,” he said.
Furthermore, he said that the key to the coalition now lies in the hands of the Democratic Party. The Coalition for Change, he said, must be able to show that there is really a change, by showing a different attitude from the current government’s policies.

“The key to the changing axis is now in the hands of the Democrats. The PKS party seems to be solid with Anies, even though they did not get anything. But it’s not necessarily the case with the Democrats. The intimacy shown by Anies to AHY could be a key tool so that the Democrats don’t back out of the coalition for change,” he said.
“The change must be concretized according to the three-party coalition. The public knows that change means something different from the current government’s policies. For example, the changing axis will remove the presidential threshold of 20%, not continue the National Intelligence Agency (IKN), evaluate infrastructure, and so on. If the changing axis ends up praising the government, the change is just a slogan. This axis must present something different from the government,” he added.
In addition, he also mentioned the absence of Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) in the high council agreement for this declaration.
“But the Democratic Party’s support for Anies this time is a serious public spotlight because there is no SBY as a central figure in determining the final direction of the Democratic Party’s coalition,” he said.

Previously, the Democratic Party’s High Council held a meeting to discuss the decision of the presidential candidate to be supported. The result of Democratic Party’s High Council agreed to support Anies Baswedan as the 2024 presidential candidate.
This was revealed by the Chairman of the Democratic Party, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY). AHY said that the decision also strengthened support regarding what the Democratic Party had conveyed since January 26.
“Because in essence, with the decision of the Democratic Party’s High Council that was made last night and confirmed directly to Mr. Anies Baswedan today as the presidential candidate that we will support together. This gives legal strength to the Democratic Party’s declaration that was previously conveyed to the public on January 26, 2023. In other words, the coalition of political parties to build a coalition of change is now complete,” said AHY at the Democratic Party’s headquarters in Central Jakarta on Thursday (2/3).
