Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – The leader of Al Zaytun Islamic Boarding School, Panji Gumilang, filed a civil lawsuit against the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs, Mahfud MD, at the Central Jakarta District Court.

In the lawsuit registered under case number 445/Pdt.G/2023/PN Jkt.Pst, Panji is seeking IDR 5 trillion in damages for alleged defamation in Mahfud MD’s statements.
The lawsuit has been confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the Central Jakarta District Court, Zulkifli Atjo.
He stated that the essence of the lawsuit is defamation (PMH). “Yes, the main point of the lawsuit is PMH. Because it is considered defamation, that’s the main point of it. There is also a case against the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) and Abbas. Gumilang has two cases here now,” said Zulkifli when contacted by CNNIndonesia.com on Thursday (July 20).
“The trial is scheduled for July 31, 2023,” he added.
The lawsuit was registered in the Central Jakarta District Court’s Case Tracking Information System (SIPP) on Monday, July 17, 2023.

The specifics of the case have not been disclosed yet.
Panji Gumilang’s lawyer, Hendra Effendy, stated that he is not aware of the details regarding his client’s lawsuit against Mahfud MD. “Let me ask first, okay,” Hendra said to reporters.
CNNIndonesia.com has attempted to contact Mahfud MD to get a response regarding this lawsuit but has not received any answers yet.
