Bandung, Indonesianpost.com – The Bandung Regency government is set to draft a regional regulation (perda) against LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) individuals. The proposal will be submitted to the Regional People’s Representative Council (DPRD) for discussion during the revision of the Regional Budget (APBD).
“We will create a Special LGBT Regulation as I recently received the MUI (Indonesian Ulema Council) fatwa. We will propose it,” said Bandung Regent, Dadang Supriatna, to reporters at the Si Jalak Harupat Stadium on Sunday (July 30, 2023).
He stated that he has communicated with MUI and obtained the fatwa regarding LGBT. The draft will soon be submitted to the DPRD for prompt discussion and approval.
Dadang mentioned that he cannot disclose the contents of the LGBT regulation yet. However, he assured that it will adhere to the MUI fatwa, which deems LGBT behavior as deviant and forbidden.
“Though I cannot reveal the details yet, it is clear that the fatwa will serve as a reference, and in Bandung Regency, LGBT activities are strictly prohibited,” he emphasized.
Previously, several regions, including Garut Regency, had introduced anti-LGBT regulations, addressing immoral behavior as of July 3, 2023.
In Garut Regency’s Perbup (Regent’s Decree) No. 47 of 2023 concerning the Implementation of Garut Regency Regional Regulation No. 2 of 2008 on Anti-Immoral Acts, as amended by Garut Regency Regional Regulation No. 13 of 2015, the rules relating to LGBT activities were included.
Article 1 of the Perbup defines homosexuality as same-sex relations, including gay (male-male) and lesbian (female-female) relationships.
Additionally, Article 1 also defines bisexuality as emotional, romantic, or sexual attraction towards individuals of both genders, namely men and women.
