Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian has expressed hope that the National Police (Polri) will conduct a thorough mapping of potential conflicts to ensure the successful implementation of the 2024 General Elections.
In a statement released on Thursday, he emphasized the crucial role of security forces in maintaining safety and stability during the election period.
“I expect the police to not only work responsively but also to proactively defuse situations and accurately asses potential conflicts,” he said.
Karnavian pointed out that many conflicts in the past were not spontaneous, but rather had underlying processes. Therefore, in order to prevent their occurrence, it is essential to predict and identify potential conflicts through more robust mapping.
He also expressed hope that intelligence gathering, both at regional and central levels, will be robust during the various stages of the 2024 General Elections.
Given that regional elections are also scheduled for the same year, ensuring their security is equally important, he added.
“Identify which regions are secure, which are susceptible to conflicts, and which are particularly vulnerable. This way, resources can be focused on the areas that are most at risk,” he added.
He underscored that accurate vulnerability mapping is crucial to supporting the success of regional elections, emphasizing that he does not want the police to only respond after conflicts have erupted.
The minister also highlighted the importance of deploying officers to specific areas based on their level of vulnerability, enabling them to act swiftly without having to wait for assistance from officers at the central level.
“So, the key is, once again, lies in accuracy. Please conduct simulations to strengthen the synergy between Polri, TNI (the Indonesian Military), Satpol PP (Public Order Enforcers Police), and Satlinmas (Community Protection Task Force),” he concluded.
He expressed confidence that Polri will execute their duties effectively in support of the 2024 elections.
The increasing public trust in Polri will serve as a foundation for securing the elections, he added.
