Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Communication and Informatics Minister Budi Arie Setiadi stated that the ministry (Kominfo) will take strict legal actions to make the 2024 General Election stay peaceful.
“We will take steps in accordance with applicable laws, including taking down anything (that has the potential to disrupt the election’s peaceful situation),” Setiadi said here on Sunday.
He explained that the ministry, during the election next year, will prevent three main issues, namely, hoaxes, slander, and hate speech.
He said that in ensuring peace during the election, the ministry will cooperate with related parties, such as the General Elections Commission (KPU), the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu), the Police, and various related ministries and agencies.
Earlier, Minister Setiadi said the ministry has prepared three strategies to support and promote the peaceful 2024 General Election narrative.

The three strategies will be implemented across three phases: before, during, and after the elections.
“In general, the message that will be conveyed is aimed to address various electoral issues, including the increase in (voters’) participation, and fulfilling the right to vote and be voted,” he said on Oct 3.
In addition, he said that the ministry strives to prevent slanders that touch on the issues of tribe, religion, race, and inter-groups (SARA) which lead to polarization.
“And the most important thing is to deal with hoaxes to keep the digital space peaceful,” he added.
Before the elections, Kominfo is prioritizing encouraging the community to reject abstention and play an active role in elections.
During the elections, the ministry will focus on encouraging collective efforts to ensure the situation remains conducive until the vote-counting process is completed.
Lastly, during the post-election period, the ministry will focus on inviting the community to maintain unity in responding to the results of the general elections.
