Better Connectivity Vital for Unlocking Tourism Growth, Says InJourney

Gdańsk, Poland, Indonesianpost.com – Retrieved from Antara, InJourney Destination Management, a state-owned company responsible for managing cultural heritage and tourism destinations, is working to enhance Indonesia’s transportation connectivity with international regions in order to unlock the nation’s full tourism potential. The company is collaborating with various stakeholders to achieve this goal.

Febrina Intan, President Director of InJourney Destination Management, highlighted the importance of robust transportation networks in advancing Indonesia’s tourism sector.

“A tourism destination can truly thrive when it is well connected to international tourists. We fully understand that the development of any tourism destination heavily depends on its connectivity,” she said at the Indonesia-Poland business forum in Gdańsk on Thursday.

Intan pointed out that while Indonesia is known for its abundant tourism assets, many of these remain underutilized due to insufficient transportation options.

She used the Borobudur Temple in Magelang, Central Java, as an example. As the largest Buddhist spiritual tourism site in Southeast Asia, Borobudur sees numerous Thai monks participate in the thudong pilgrimage during Vesak Day each year. The journey, rooted in ascetic practices, translates to “walking” in Thai, symbolizing self-discipline and inner peace.

“Borobudur is a significant spiritual destination for Buddhists, but there are no direct flights from Bangkok to Yogyakarta,” Intan noted, referencing the Adisutjipto and Yogyakarta International Airports, the closest major airports to the temple.

She emphasized that establishing a direct flight between Bangkok and Yogyakarta would make it more convenient for tourists and Buddhist pilgrims from around the world to visit Borobudur and nearby attractions.

This initiative aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s vision to develop local tourism as a catalyst for national economic growth, Intan added. (BL)
