Bilateral Climate Ties with Canada to Grow Stronger, Pratikno Affirms

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture, Pratikno, reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening climate cooperation with Canada during the 158th Canada Day celebration in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He emphasized the importance of bilateral collaboration in tackling global challenges, especially those related to climate change.

“Climate action requires courage, social justice demands resilience, and economic growth needs partnerships,” Pratikno said in an official statement released Thursday.

The minister noted that future partnerships between Indonesia and Canada will be built on shared priorities such as environmental resilience, social justice, and sustainable development.

He also expressed deep appreciation for the Indonesian diaspora living in Canada, acknowledging their role in building cultural bridges and strengthening people-to-people ties.

Pratikno praised Canada’s commitment to democratic values and multiculturalism, calling the country a global example of how diversity can be a source of strength rather than division.

“Indonesia sends its warmest regards to Canada. We share the same goal: unity in diversity,” he said.

Indonesia and Canada established diplomatic relations in 1952, and this year marks 73 years of friendship. The relationship is expected to deepen further following the signing of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) in 2024.

The CEPA is seen as a milestone in the economic cooperation and sustainable development efforts between the two nations.

“Canada believes in the power of the people, and so does Indonesia. Together, we empower communities, preserve culture, protect the vulnerable, and advocate for human rights,” Pratikno concluded. (BL)
