  • BMKG says strong winds affecting Ciayumajakuning since last week may continue until the end of January, alongside light to heavy rain and cooler temperatures.
  • The agency links the weather to atmospheric disturbances and tropical disturbance 97S, which has intensified wind convergence and rain cloud formation around Java.
  • Residents are urged to watch for floods, landslides, lightning and falling trees, and to avoid sheltering under tall trees or billboards.

Strong winds have hit the Ciayumajakuning region—covering Cirebon city and regency as well as Indramayu, Majalengka and Kuningan—since last week, raising concerns over potential accidents and damage.

A Republika observation found that the winds have also come with light to heavy rain in several areas. The air has also felt noticeably colder than usual.

Acting head of the BMKG Kertajati Meteorological Station, Muhammad Syifaul Fuad, said the conditions were driven by multiple atmospheric disturbances that have significantly boosted the growth of convective clouds.

He added that a tropical disturbance, identified as 97S, over the southern Indian Ocean off Indonesia has contributed to the situation. The system has helped form a wind convergence zone around Java, increasing rain cloud development and strengthening winds.

“These conditions are forecast to remain possible through the end of January,” Fuad said on Thursday.

Fuad noted that the maximum wind speed recorded at the Kertajati observation post has reached 2323 knots, several times higher than the usual 551515 knots.

In response, he urged residents to stay alert during the current peak of the rainy season, when moderate to heavy बारिश may occur along with lightning and strong winds.

“Be aware of the potential impacts, including hydrometeorological disasters such as floods, landslides, lightning strikes and fallen trees. Monitor BMKG’s official weather forecasts,” he said.

For strong winds specifically, Fuad advised the public not to take shelter under large, tall trees or near tall billboards, as both could topple in high winds and pose a serious risk to safety.
