The Denpasar office of the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BBMKG) Region III has issued an early warning over potentially high waves forecast to reach up to four meters in waters around Bali from Jan. 27 to 30, 2026.

“Be alert to the potential for strong winds in northern and southern Bali waters,” BBMKG Region III head Cahyo Nugroho said in Denpasar, Bali, on Monday.

BBMKG Denpasar said the high-wave potential may occur in the Badung Strait, the southern part of the Bali Strait, the southern part of the Lombok Strait, and the southern waters of Bali.

Waves of up to 2.52.5 meters are forecast in northern Bali waters and the northern part of the Lombok Strait.

Based on synoptic conditions, wind patterns over northern and southern Bali waters generally blow from the west-northwest, with wind speeds forecast to reach up to 2525 knots, or about 4646 kilometers per hour.

BBMKG Denpasar said the combination of strong winds and high seas could pose risks to maritime safety.

Fishermen using small boats are advised to remain cautious when wind speeds exceed 1515 knots (around 2727 kilometers per hour) and wave heights reach 1.251.25 meters.

Barge operators are advised to stay alert when winds reach 1616 knots and waves rise to 1.51.5 meters.

Ferry operators, meanwhile, are urged to exercise caution when wind speeds reach 2121 knots and wave heights reach 2.52.5 meters.

On Tuesday (Jan. 27), Bali is forecast to see light rain.

However, the agency urged residents to remain vigilant for moderate to heavy rainfall that may be accompanied by lightning and brief episodes of strong winds across much of Bali.

BBMKG encouraged the public to monitor weather updates on bbmkg3.bmkg.go.id and maritime forecasts at maritim.bmkg.go.id.

Weather information is also available via social media, including Instagram account @bmkgbali, or through the BMKG Info mobile application.
