Minister Subianto discusses bilateral issues with Malaysian PM

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto discussed several bilateral and regional issues with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim during a visit to Langkawi, Malaysia, on Tuesday evening, according to a statement released on Wednesday.

The minister conducted the official visit on the sidelines of his agenda to attend the 2023 Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace (LIMA) Exhibition.

Ibrahim lauded the minister for making the time for the official visit amid his busy schedule. He said that he expects the relations between the two partnering countries to remain strong as ever.

According to the official website of the Malaysian Prime Minister’s Office, the meeting lasted for about an hour. During the meeting, Subianto and Ibrahim discussed collective interests, including strengthening bilateral and regional relations.

They also touched upon efforts to strengthen the two countries defense and security cooperation.

Malaysian Defense Minister Dato’ Seri Mohamad Hasan and Foreign Affairs Minister Zambry bin Abdul Kadir joined Ibrahim in welcoming Subianto’s visit.

Earlier, on the sidelines of the 2023 LIMA, Subianto also witnessed the inking of a memorandum of understanding between state-owned enterprise PT Dirgantara Indonesia with two Malaysian companies, AIROD Sdn. Bhd. and SME Aerospace Sdn. Bhd.

Ibrahim visited Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, from May 9 to 11, 2023, to attend the 42nd ASEAN Summit. He also held a bilateral meeting with Indonesian President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

During the meeting, Widodo underlined the importance of the two countries resolving their land and sea border dispute.

Indonesia and Malaysia also need to optimize the One-Channel System for Indonesian migrant workers employed in the Malaysian domestic sector.

This would align with Widodo’s call to improve the protection of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia.
