Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Through its Ambassador, Ukraine has received clarification from Indonesian Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto regarding his suggestions (proposal) for the Ukraine-Russia peace plan. The peace plan proposal was previously regarded by Ukraine as an unusual suggestion and suspected to be similar to Russian proposals.

Ukraine’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Vasyl Hamianin, met with Prabowo Subianto at Prabowo’s office in Jakarta on Monday (5/6). Vasyl stated that he has received clarification from Prabowo regarding the peace suggestions he previously presented at the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue 20th Asia Security Summit in Singapore on Saturday (3/6).
“I am satisfied with the clarification,” Vasyl told detikcom on Tuesday (6/6/2023).
Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov initially considered Prabowo’s peace suggestions to be unusual. Prabowo’s suggestions included a ceasefire, mutual withdrawal of forces by 15 kilometers, the establishment of monitoring forces, suggesting the involvement of the UN along the demilitarized zone, the monitoring forces composed of agreed-upon countries, and conducting a referendum. However, during the meeting at the Indonesian Ministry of Defense office, clarification was obtained from the Ukrainian side.
“We clarified all misunderstandings,” Vasyl said, choosing not to provide detailed explanations about the meeting with Prabowo yesterday.
He considered the meeting with Prabowo to be constructive. Ukraine’s political position is clear, and they do not want a referendum as suggested by Prabowo. Additionally, the meeting also discussed the latest situation in Ukraine and the threats to humanity in Ukraine due to the ongoing Russian invasion.

“We also discussed President Zelenskyy’s Peace Plan Formula, the most realistic ways to bring peace back to Europe,” said Vasyl, conveying an official statement from the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Peace Formula aims to achieve long-term peace in Ukraine, namely through the liberation of the entire Ukrainian territory from Russian occupation. Ukraine has invited Indonesia to join in implementing this formula.

Prabowo Subianto has also released a statement regarding his meeting with Vasyl Hamianin. Prabowo said that during their meeting, they discussed the continuously evolving and dynamic global situation. Prabowo emphasized Indonesia’s political stance.

“Indonesia, as a country that adheres to an active non-aligned policy, wants to be a friend to all countries in the world,” Prabowo said in the caption of a photo he uploaded on his personal Instagram account, @prabowo. He reiterated that Indonesia supports wise steps for the sake of world peace.
Jokowi seeks clarification from Prabowo
President Jokowi, the first Asian leader to visit Ukraine after the Russian invasion, has requested an explanation from his Minister, Prabowo, regarding the suggestions he made in Singapore. According to Jokowi, Prabowo’s suggestions, including the referendum and troop withdrawal, were Prabowo’s own ideas.
“Perhaps today or tomorrow, I will invite him to ask for an explanation about what the Minister of Defense has conveyed,” Jokowi said at the PDIP headquarters in Lenteng Agung, South Jakarta, earlier.
