House of Representatives to Oversee Implementation of MK Ruling on Free Education
Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, Legislator Lalu Hadrian Irfani has reaffirmed the House of Representatives’ commitment to overseeing the implementation of the Constitutional Court’s (MK) ruling, which mandates the government to provide free basic education in both public and private schools.
“Commission X of the House of Representatives is dedicated to ensuring that the MK ruling is implemented in line with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution, Article 31, which guarantees every citizen’s right to education,” Irfani said in a statement to reporters on Wednesday.
He expressed full support for the ruling, noting that it aligns with the constitutional spirit of ensuring equal access to quality education for all citizens.
However, Irfani raised concerns about the availability of sufficient budgetary resources to fulfill the mandate of providing free education. He emphasized the need for both state and regional budgets (APBN and APBD) to adequately and fairly cover the operational costs of education.

“There must be a transparent mechanism to ensure that private schools receive adequate subsidies, without compromising their quality or autonomy,” he added.
Irfani also called for a revision of some technical policies related to the School Operational Assistance (BOS) program. He argued that changes are needed to ensure that BOS funding reaches private schools nationwide.
“Revising the technical regulations for the BOS program is crucial so that funding can be distributed comprehensively to private schools across the country,” he stated.
Earlier, on Tuesday (May 27, 2025), the MK ruled that both central and regional governments must ensure free education at the elementary and junior high school levels, including in madrasas or equivalent institutions, whether they are public or private. (BL)
