Indonesia Calls on BRICS to Accelerate AI Adoption in Education Sector

Brasilia, Brazil, Indonesianpost.com – Indonesia has called on BRICS member states to intensify efforts in integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into the education sector, highlighting its transformative potential to personalize learning, improve teaching efficiency, and expand access to quality education.

Speaking at the 12th BRICS Education Ministers Meeting held in early June in Brasília, Indonesian Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto stressed the urgent need for AI adoption in education systems across the bloc.

“This is about creating more personalized learning experiences, improving teaching efficiency, and expanding access to educational services,” Yuliarto said, according to an official statement released in Jakarta on Sunday

Indonesia’s National Push for AI in Education

Home to the fourth-largest education system in the world — with over 50 million students, 3.3 million teachers, and 430,000 schools — Indonesia sees AI as a key driver for improving the quality of education.

Yuliarto outlined a number of government-led digital initiatives, including the introduction of basic digital infrastructure in schools and the launch of Rumah Pendidikan (Educational House) — a national platform offering personalized learning content and resources for students, teachers, and educational institutions.

He also revealed plans to introduce AI and coding curricula to thousands of schools across the country as part of a broader digital transformation strategy.

Promoting Global Talent and BRICS Collaboration

Turning to higher education, Yuliarto reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to building a collaborative platform among BRICS countries, aimed at addressing the evolving needs of the global talent market.

“We believe that this initiative is essential to meeting the demands of an increasingly mobile and competitive global talent market,” he said.

Yuliarto further emphasized the importance of international cooperation within BRICS to eliminate digital barriers and ensure ethical and inclusive AI development in education.

“Indonesia calls for international collaboration, particularly within BRICS, to share best practices and promote responsible governance in the use of AI in education,” he added.

Shared Values for Ethical AI in Education

At the conclusion of the meeting, education ministers from BRICS nations — Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa — along with Indonesia, agreed on the need to guide AI adoption in education with ethical standards, cultural sensitivity, inclusivity, and a human-centered approach.
