FLP Gowa Accomodated Activists in South South Sulawesi to Talk About the Solution of Sexual Harassment
Appreciation is given to the Forum Lingkar Pena which has accommodated activists from various communities to discuss this matter
Makassar, Indonesianpost.com – Forum Lingkar Pena Gowa successfully held a Women Talk entitled “Break the Silence, Bersama Akhiri Pelecehan” which was attended by dozens of women activists from various communities in Makassar, Gowa, and Maros. This dialogue was held on Monday, January 27, 2025 at Nutrihub.
This dialogue was supported by the head of Women’s Empowerment, Child Protection and Family Planning Service, Hj. Andi Mirna, S.H, and the Vice Chancellor III of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Dr. Farida Patittingi, S.H., M.Hum
As the speaker, Yayang Malil, said, “Sexual harassment is not just an individual issue, but a systematic problem that requires the courage of all of us to act. This is a social epidemic that must be eradicated together. In my opinion, apart from massive education, as an Indonesian citizen, there are three basic protectors of sexual harassment; the application of religious values, customs and law enforcement.”
Then, Musyayyadah, the second speaker, said, “Sexual harassment is an important and urgent matter to be discussed, especially by young people. Appreciation is given to the Forum Lingkar Pena which has accommodated activists from various communities to discuss this matter. What must be understood is that the main cause of this case is the presence of secular-liberal views in society. This view creates individuals who are free to do anything without any limitations. Therefore, it is necessary to revoke this secular view and replace it with a view that regulates human life properly. That is the Islamic view.”
Moreover, Marwah Juwita, the third speaker, said, “Sexual harassment is a systemic problem that cannot be completely prevented by women themselves. However, we need to provide education, encourage them to report, create solidarity, and provide advocacy, so that women can protect themselves. It must be remembered that those who must be responsible for cases of sexual harassment are the perpetrators and strict laws.” [NS]
