Government Sets October 2026 Cutoff for Halal Certification Compliance

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – The Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) has confirmed that cosmetic products must obtain halal certification by October 17, 2026, as mandated by Government Regulation Number 42 of 2024.

Deputy Head of BPJPH Afriansyah Noor stated that the regulation applies to five product categories:

– Medicinal products

– Cosmetics

– Chemical products

– Genetically engineered products

– Consumer goods

“While the mandatory certification takes effect in 2026, many cosmetic producers have already voluntarily obtained halal certification,” Noor said in a statement on Thursday.

Growing Market Demand for Halal Cosmetics

Noor emphasized that halal cosmetics have become essential products for Indonesian consumers, particularly Muslim women who increasingly prioritize halal labels when making purchases.

BPJPH data reveals significant progress in certification:

– 81,343 domestic cosmetic products certified

– 7,558 foreign cosmetic products certified

BPJPH Intensifies Business Outreach

Chuzaemi Abidin, BPJPH Deputy for Development and Supervision, said the agency is ramping up educational campaigns to help businesses comply with the new requirements.

“We’re conducting extensive outreach through various channels to increase industry awareness and build consumer trust,” Abidin explained.

The agency particularly commended businesses that have proactively improved product quality through halal certification, noting this demonstrates commitment to meeting both regulatory standards and market expectations.

With the 2026 deadline approaching, BPJPH continues to work with stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation of the halal certification mandate across all affected industries. (BL/Antara)
