Macron Invites Prabowo to Attend Bastille Day Celebrations in Paris

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, French President Emmanuel Macron has invited President Prabowo Subianto to Paris as an honorary guest for the Bastille Day celebrations on July 14 this year.

“I’ve received a personal invitation from President Macron to attend Bastille Day, which is celebrated every July 14 in France to commemorate the French Revolution and the beginning of the modern French Republic,” Prabowo shared during a joint press conference with Macron at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.

In addition to the invitation, Macron also asked Indonesia to send a contingent to participate in the Bastille Day parade, which marks the storming of the Bastille.

President Prabowo expressed his appreciation for the invitation, noting that he is eager to join the historic celebrations. “I would like to thank President Macron. In the past, when I visited Paris, I watched the celebrations from the sidelines. This time, I’ll have the opportunity to stand on the podium with the president,” he said.

Prabowo has visited Paris several times in the past, including trips to see his son, Didiet Hediprasetyo, who previously lived in the French capital.

During the press conference, Prabowo also emphasized the strong and growing bilateral relations between Indonesia and France.

President Macron echoed these sentiments, stating that the ties between the two nations have significantly deepened over the past decade. He expressed confidence that his three-day visit to Indonesia would mark a new chapter in the bilateral strategic partnership, opening doors for broader cooperation in areas such as the economy, technology, and security.

On defense and security, Macron highlighted recent military collaborations, including the deployment of the French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle (RP91) to Bali and West Nusa Tenggara earlier this year as part of the Clemenceau 25 mission. He also expressed a strong desire to further strengthen cultural ties between the two nations. (BL)
