Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is set to deploy approximately 4,000 prospective teachers across 100 locations for the Sekolah Rakyat initiative this year.

Nunuk Suryani, the Ministry’s Director General for Teachers, Educational Staff, and Teacher Education (Dirjen GTKPG), stated that they will provide three times the number of teachers required for the 100 Sekolah Rakyat locations, which is 1,514 teachers.

“The estimated need for teachers across 100 Sekolah Rakyat locations is 1,514. We will prepare candidates who already hold teacher certificates. We plan to provide three times that number, and the final selection will be made by the Minister of Social Affairs,” she explained during a dialogue session at the Ministry’s office in Jakarta on Wednesday.

The 4,000 prospective teachers are recent graduates with Teacher Professional Education (PPG) certification who have yet to be placed in teaching positions. Suryani emphasized that these candidates will not come from the pool of already-placed teachers and will not involve any redistribution of current teaching staff.

This strategy aims to avoid disruption to the ongoing academic year, ensuring that Sekolah Rakyat teachers, who will later reside in dormitories to mentor students, do not affect regular teaching activities.

“Teachers for Sekolah Rakyat will need to live in dormitories with the children, which aligns with our new approach to education,” she added.

Sekolah Rakyat is slated to begin operations in July 2025. The Ministry of Social Affairs (Kemensos) is targeting the establishment of 100 Sekolah Rakyat across Indonesia this year, focusing on students from low-income and extremely poor families, identified in the first decile of the National Socioeconomic Single Data (DTSEN).
