Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has once again called for an immediate ceasefire between Israel and Hamas, along with efforts to de-escalate the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.

During a Leaders’ Retreat with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, President Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia’s commitment to promoting global peace. Speaking at the Parliament House in Singapore on Monday, he emphasized the importance of diplomatic solutions.

“We stress the need for a peaceful resolution through negotiations and call for an immediate ceasefire,” President Prabowo said.

He expressed Indonesia’s strong belief that dialogue and diplomacy are the only viable solutions to the ongoing conflict, which has led to numerous civilian casualties in the Middle East.

“We are deeply concerned about the situation in Gaza and the intensifying conflict between Israel and Iran,” he added.

In addition to addressing Middle Eastern issues, President Prabowo also drew attention to the ongoing political and humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, which stemmed from the military coup in 2021 that overthrew the democratically elected government of Aung San Suu Kyi.

As part of ASEAN, Indonesia and Singapore reaffirmed their commitment to supporting peaceful engagement in Myanmar, in line with ASEAN’s principles.

Prabowo noted that ASEAN has been advocating for the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC), which was agreed upon by all its leaders—including Myanmar’s military junta. This framework focuses on ending violence, providing humanitarian aid, and promoting inclusive dialogue involving all stakeholders in Myanmar.

“On Myanmar, we agreed to continue pushing for peaceful engagement and resolution,” Prabowo concluded. (BL)
