The West Java Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BBKSDA) has said a leopard that entered a residential area in Maruyung Village, Pacet district, Bandung regency, will be taken to the Cikembulan Conservation Institution in Garut regency. The animal had reportedly bitten three residents, leaving them injured.

“We will handle it and take it to the Cikembulan Conservation Institution in Garut,” said Vitriana Yulalita, head of Conservation Section for Region V at BBKSDA West Java, as quoted on Friday (Feb. 6, 2026).

She said the initial response to the leopard roaming in the neighborhood was carried out with support from local residents. Vitriana noted that the community showed a wise attitude and strong conservation awareness by helping to secure the animal.

“Thank God, people here understand very well that the leopard is a protected species, so handling was done to ensure the leopard was not injured or killed,” she said.

She added that BBKSDA West Java was conducting checks on the leopard’s condition and health. The results, she said, would serve as the basis for determining the next steps, including rehabilitation and a possible release back into the wild.

“Our focus is on the leopard’s condition first. We will treat its health, then we will assess whether it is suitable for rehabilitation and can be released again,” she said.

She said authorities could not yet confirm where the leopard came from. However, based on information from residents, the Pacet area and its surroundings are known as leopard habitat.

Earlier, three residents of Maruyung hamlet in Pacet district, Bandung regency, were bitten by a leopard that entered a residential area and Maruyung Market on Thursday (Feb. 5, 2026) morning. They suffered wounds on their right arms and received several stitches at the Pacet community health center.

West Java Police spokesperson Sr. Comr. Hendra Rochmawan said there had been reports of a leopard roaming in a residential area in Maruyung hamlet, Pacet district, Bandung regency, on Thursday (Feb. 5, 2026).

After receiving the report, he said officers from the local police, the Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) and the fire department went to the site to secure the area.

“The leopard was cornered and trapped against an iron fence, then it was captured at around 10:30 a.m. using a net and tied,” he said on Thursday (Feb. 5, 2026).
