Indonesia is making a strategic push to attract more Indian tourists by participating in the Outbound Travel Mart (OTM) 2026, held from February 5 to 7 at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, India.

“This year, we are targeting potential transactions of around Rp48 billion with projections of welcoming about 40,000 Indian tourists,” said Ni Made Ayu Marthini, Deputy Minister for Marketing at the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, as stated in the ministry’s official press release confirmed in Jakarta on Friday.

At OTM 2026, the Indonesian delegation featured 30 tourism industry players, including 20 destination management companies, five travel agencies, two hotel operators, two restaurant operators, and one attraction manager.

Ahead of the exhibition, the Indonesian Tourism Ministry organized a sales mission in Chennai, India, on February 3, 2026.

Known for its affluent professional middle-to-upper class community, high literacy rate, and strong interest in international, spiritual, wellness, and MICE (Meeting, Incentive, Convention, and Exhibition) travel, Chennai presents a promising market for Indonesia’s tourism offerings.

“With a metropolitan population exceeding 11 million and an increasingly strong purchasing power, Chennai represents a strategic market for Indonesia’s tourism industry,” Made said.

Government data show that the number of Indian tourist arrivals in Indonesia reached 734,490 in 2025, an increase of 3.42 percent from 710,688 visitors in 2024.

Dedi Ahmad Kurnia, Assistant Deputy for International Tourism Marketing I, said that India remains one of Indonesia’s most promising tourism markets.

“With a population of around 1.47 billion, India represents an enormous potential for inbound tourism,” he said.
“Our participation in OTM 2026 is expected to strengthen the branding and image of Wonderful Indonesia as the leading travel destination for Indian visitors,” he added.

Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry previously participated in OTM 2024, which generated potential transactions worth around Rp40.7 billion. The ministry also took part in other major travel fairs such as SATTE and ITB India in 2025 to further build interest among Indian travelers.

During the OTM 2026 opening ceremony, Indonesia’s pavilion became one of the most visited exhibition areas during the VIP walk-around session.

Distinguished guests included Sarawak’s Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Dato’ Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, and Mauritius Minister of Tourism, Christian Harold Richard Duval.

In addition, the Indonesian Tourism Ministry received an award from OA Globe DMC during the Tourism Excellence Awards – Celebrating Leaders Who Shape Destinations.

The recognition honors tourism authorities that play a key role in raising awareness of destinations, supporting Indian travel industry stakeholders, and fostering consistent growth in the Indian outbound market.
