  • Prabowo says Indonesia received Saudi approval for land in Mecca to build Kampung Haji Indonesia, calling it an unprecedented honor.
  • The complex is targeted for completion in about three years, starting with roughly 1,000 rooms and phased expansion for Indonesian pilgrims.
  • The announcement was delivered at NU’s centennial Mujahadah Kubro in Malang, which drew an estimated 105,000 participants and senior officials.

President Prabowo Subianto said Indonesia has become the first country to receive what he described as an honor from the Saudi government: a plot of land in the holy city of Mecca for the construction of the Kampung Haji Indonesia complex.

Speaking at the Mujahadah Kubro gathering marking the centennial anniversary of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) at Gajayana Stadium in Malang, East Java, on Sunday, Prabowo said the policy reflected Saudi Arabia’s respect for Indonesia.

“This is the first time in history that the Saudi government has allowed another nation to own land in the holy city of Mecca. Brothers and sisters, they changed their law specifically to honor the Indonesian nation,” he said.

He said the land in Mecca would be used to build Kampung Haji, a dedicated complex intended for Indonesian Hajj and Umrah pilgrims.

Prabowo added that a number of countries were expected to follow Indonesia in establishing similar pilgrim villages in the Holy Land.

“Because of us, many other countries will soon follow. God willing, Kampung Haji Indonesia will be the first that we establish,” he said.

He said the Kampung Haji Indonesia complex could be completed in about three years, with adequate facilities.

In the initial phase, the government plans to build around 1,000 rooms and expand the development in stages. He pledged to provide decent accommodation and improve services for pilgrims.

The President also said he was determined to reduce the cost of organizing the Hajj so it would be more affordable for Indonesians.

“Later, I guarantee all pilgrims will receive decent accommodation, a good place. Do not hesitate anymore—there must be no more issues. The service will be the best, and I am determined to lower Hajj costs for the people of Indonesia,” he said.

The Mujahadah Kubro event, held on Feb. 7–8, 2026, marked the culmination of NU’s centennial anniversary series organized by the East Java chapter of NU (PWNU Jatim).

The gathering was expected to draw around 105,000 people, comprising 77,541 representatives from NU branch leaderships across East Java and about 27,000 members of Muslimat NU. Participants traveled in 1,183 buses, 6,465 cars and 5,413 motorcycles.

The event was also attended by members of the Red and White Cabinet, prominent ulama and charismatic kiai, the NU central board (PBNU), the East Java NU leadership, and tens of thousands of Nahdliyin from various regions.
