  • Tehran’s latest declaration signals rising regional tension as Iran vows to defend itself through counterattacks deemed lawful under international norms.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ismail Baghaei, declared on Saturday that Iran reserves the legitimate right to strike all U.S. and Israeli strategic facilities across the region, describing it as a lawful act of retaliation against what he called ongoing aggression by the two countries.

“All major U.S. and Israeli targets in the region will be within our reach,” Baghaei told Al Jazeera, emphasizing that Tehran’s actions are in line with its right to self-defense under international law.

He further stated that Iran’s counterattack is directed specifically at bases and facilities that had previously launched strikes against the Islamic Republic.

Earlier on Saturday morning (February 28), Israel’s Ministry of Defense confirmed it had carried out attacks on Iranian targets and declared a nationwide state of emergency amid escalating tensions.

The United States also admitted to launching air and sea strikes on several Iranian positions, according to a U.S. official cited by Reuters on the same day (February 28).

In retaliation, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the launch of the first wave of rocket attacks against Israel. Tehran subsequently deployed missiles and drones toward Israeli territory in what it described as a direct response to “Zionist aggression.”

Iran’s retaliatory strikes also targeted several U.S. military bases across the Middle East, including those located in Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia.
