Jakarta – Indonesia’s Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP) of the House of Representatives has called on the United Nations to conduct an impartial investigation into Israel’s attack on UN peacekeepers in Lebanon, known as UNIFIL.

“We urge the UN to carry out a neutral and objective probe. It must not be swayed by lobbying from the United States or Israel, which could obscure the fact that Israel is the perpetrator,” BKSAP Chairman Syahrul Aidi Maazat said in a statement received in Jakarta on Friday.

He argued that the assault on peacekeeping forces not only breaches international law but also undermines the fundamental principles of global cooperation upheld by the UN.

Syahrul strongly condemned the attack, which claimed the lives of three Indonesian soldiers.

“We condemn it outright as a violation of international law and a blatant disregard for the UN, the very institution where nations forge agreements,” he added.

He further emphasized that Indonesia demands clear accountability for those responsible, free from any political interference.

“BKSAP firmly states that Israel is the culprit. Peacekeepers’ positions make it implausible for Lebanon or Hezbollah to have launched the strike,” Syahrul said.

To that end, he pushed for the case to be escalated to international legal channels to uphold justice. Indonesia must take a firm stance to maintain its commitment to international law and agreements.

“If we let this slide, Indonesia will appear weak. We need to act more decisively,” Syahrul warned.

The three Indonesian TNI personnel serving with UNIFIL were killed in Israeli strikes on Sunday (March 29) and Monday (March 30). They were identified as Praka Farizal Rhomadhon, Captain (Inf) Zulmi Aditya Iskandar, and Sergeant Major Muhammad Nur Ichwan.
