ANTARA Calls on OANA Members to Embrace Changes in Global Media Landscape
ST. PETERSBURG – Indonesianpost.com – President Director of Indonesia’s ANTARA News Agency, Akhmad Munir, has urged members of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) to strengthen their capacity in order to stay relevant and resilient amid ongoing disruptions in the media landscape.
“Media organizations must continuously evolve and adapt in response to industry disruptions and the dominance of global digital platforms,” Munir stated during the 19th OANA General Assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia, on Thursday.
He emphasized the importance of OANA’s role in maintaining a strong ecosystem for news agencies, advancing press professionalism, and fostering both bilateral and multilateral cooperation among its members.
The general assembly, hosted by Russia’s TASS news agency, carried the theme “News Agencies and Challenges in the Modern World.” The event gathered leaders from various member agencies to share perspectives and chart a collective path forward.

In a video address, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov extended his greetings and praised OANA’s contributions to promoting balanced coverage of international affairs.
“OANA plays a crucial role in uniting news agencies across Eurasia, Asia-Pacific, and the Middle East. It fosters the exchange of best practices and upholds journalistic integrity,” Lavrov said.
He also acknowledged OANA’s efforts to defend media professionals’ rights and promote ethical journalism, noting that such initiatives are essential to building a better and more informed world.
TASS Director General Andrey Kondrashov echoed similar sentiments, describing OANA as a valuable platform for collaboration and knowledge-sharing among media organizations.
“We hope that all member agencies will remain dedicated to covering current affairs responsibly and constructively, contributing to a more informed and progressive future,” Kondrashov added. (BL)
