Indonesia continues to focus on food security and family nutrition as part of its core social development agenda, especially amid volatile staple food prices. These challenges are further complicated by the gap in food access between urban and rural areas.
According to data from the 2024 Indonesian Nutrition Status Survey (SSGI), the national stunting prevalence among children under five fell to 19.8 percent. Although this marks progress, the figure remains above the government’s target and highlights the continued inequality in achieving balanced nutrition. Stunting persists as a key issue, affecting cognitive growth and the long-term productivity of future generations.
To address these challenges, PT Permodalan Nasional Madani (PNM) has introduced community-based initiatives through programs such as Rumah Pangan, Pekarangan Bergizi, and Lorong Mekaar. Throughout 2025, these food security initiatives have reached 1,264 beneficiaries across 27 Rumah Pangan locations. The programs promote the cultivation of high-protein and nutrient-rich commodities—including laying hens, fish, vegetables, and fruits—managed by local communities and PNM’s client groups.
Designed not only to support household food needs but also to enhance family income, these initiatives utilize local resources productively. They empower families, especially women, to become key contributors to community resilience and economic empowerment.
One such beneficiary, Laksmi, a member of PNM Mekaar in Kopeng, Semarang, shared how participation in the Rumah Pangan program improved her family’s livelihood. “Through this program, we learned proper cultivation techniques and could use our vegetable and poultry harvests to meet our family’s nutritional needs. Once our needs were met, we sold part of the produce to increase our household income,” she said.
PNM Corporate Secretary Dodot Patria Ary reiterated the company’s commitment to strengthening household food resilience, emphasizing that community nutrition plays a critical role in national development. “We continue to enhance our programs to deliver nutritional needs in villages through Rumah Pangan PNM. We hope every beneficiary becomes both economically and nutritionally empowered,” he remarked.
The Rumah Pangan, Pekarangan Bergizi, and Lorong Mekaar programs have proven that community-based empowerment can drive tangible changes in rural welfare. By combining local food availability, practical training, and economic opportunities, PNM’s approach nurtures not only sustainable family nutrition but also a stronger, more resilient rural economy.
