Taiwan Opens Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES) 2026 for Indonesians to Study Mandarin

Taiwan’s Ministry of Education (MoE) has reopened applications for the 2026 Huayu Enrichment Scholarship (HES), a program aimed at international learners. What is the scholarship about?

According to the Taipei Economic and Trade Office in Indonesia, the HES is designed to encourage foreign nationals to study Mandarin in Taiwan. Under the scheme, participants will enroll in Mandarin classes at a designated language center in Taiwan for one year, running from September 2026 to August 2027.

Scholarship recipients will receive a monthly stipend of $\text{NTD }28,000$ (around Rp14 million). The program is open to high school graduates and applicants aged at least 18. The application window is open until March 31, 2026.

Applicants must:

• Be aged 18 or older

• Hold at least a high school diploma (SMA or equivalent)

• Demonstrate good academic performance and strong moral character

If an applicant meets any of the conditions below, they are not eligible to apply:

• They are a Taiwanese national or hold Overseas Chinese Student status

• They are currently studying at a language center in Taiwan, or have previously studied at a university in Taiwan in a degree program

• They have previously received the HES or the Taiwan MoE scholarship

• They plan to join a student exchange or double-degree program under an inter-university partnership during the same period as the scholarship

• They plan to receive other subsidies or scholarships provided by Taiwanese government agencies or educational institutions in Taiwan during the same period

Required documents include:

• HES scholarship application form

• Photocopy of passport and family card (Kartu Keluarga)

• Photocopy of the latest diploma and academic transcript; applicants who have not yet graduated may submit a certificate of graduation letter stamped by the school

• Photocopy of proof of registration form from a language center in Taiwan

• Two recommendation letters in English or Mandarin, each bearing an original (wet-ink) signature

Scholarship results will be sent by email to successful applicants before June 15, 2026. Applicants should note that only those who pass the selection process will receive a notification.
