Indonesia Plans to Establish 100 Red and White Fisheries Villages in Just 4 Months

Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Retrieved from Antara, The Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries is set to establish 100 Red and White fisheries villages within the next four months as part of its initiative to empower coastal communities across Indonesia.

Trian Yunanda, an expert staff member on economic, social, and cultural affairs for the Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, revealed the target during the “Morning Sea” event held in Jakarta on Monday.

“With a well-rounded plan, we believe that achieving this target is possible,” Yunanda stated, adding that the ministry will engage officers from priority coastal regions for further discussions.

A meeting will be scheduled soon to finalize the design for the 100 integrated and productive Red and White fisheries villages.

Looking ahead, the ministry has set an ambitious goal of establishing 1,100 Red and White fisheries villages by 2027 to boost the economy and prosperity of coastal communities.

Currently, the ministry is piloting the fisheries village project in Kampung Nelayan Modern (Kalamo) Samber-Binyeri, located in Biak Numfor district, Papua. Yunanda emphasized that this pilot project could serve as a model for other Red and White fisheries villages throughout Indonesia. (BL)
