Govt Races to Deliver Aid and Keep Students in School Amid Donggala Floods
Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, Vice Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Atip Latipulhayat visited the flood-affected areas in Donggala District, Central Sulawesi, to provide immediate assistance to teachers and students impacted by the recent flash floods.
In a statement released from Jakarta on Saturday, Latipulhayat stressed the importance of quickly addressing the flood disaster to prevent disruptions to the learning process.
“Today, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is taking swift action to ensure that teaching and learning activities can continue without interruption,” he said.
He highlighted that the affected schools could be included in President Prabowo’s Quick Best Results Program (PHTC) for the rehabilitation and revitalization of educational facilities.
“To achieve quality education for all, which is a key government priority, we must ensure that educational facilities are up to standard, as this is crucial for the advancement of education in Indonesia,” Latipulhayat emphasized.

The Ministry, through various directorates and the National Secretariat of Disaster-Resilient Schools (SPAB), has delivered assistance, including 450 student learning kits, two sets of educational toys for early childhood education (PAUD), operational assistance for SPAB amounting to Rp135 million, one emergency classroom set, and 21 types of non-textbook reading materials to support the continuation of education in the affected areas.
Ahmad Hitler, Head of SMPN 9 Tanantovea, reported that despite the damage caused by the floods, lessons continued in the four classrooms that remained intact.
“We used the four classrooms that were not severely damaged to keep the lessons going,” he said.
Vice Minister Latipulhayat was accompanied by Donggala District Head Vera Elena Laruni, Deputy District Head Taufik Muhammad Burhan, Head of the Central Sulawesi Provincial Education Office Yudiawati V. Windarrusliana, Head of the Donggala Education Office Kasmuddin, Director of Special Education and Inclusive Education Saryadi, and all heads of Integrated Service Units (UPT) from the Ministry of Education and Culture in Central Sulawesi.
