Jakarta – The World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced on Sunday (May 24) that intensified surveillance efforts by the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in response to the Ebola outbreak have identified more than 900 suspected cases, including 101 that have been laboratory-confirmed.

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has issued a warning that at least 10 African countries are at high risk of being affected by the ongoing Ebola outbreak in the DRC and Uganda, raising concerns over potential regional transmission of the virus.

During a virtual press briefing on Saturday evening (May 23), Africa CDC Director-General Jean Kaseya stated that the countries considered to be at elevated risk include South Sudan, Rwanda, Kenya, Zambia, the Central African Republic, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Angola, the Republic of the Congo, and Burundi.
