Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com– Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar congratulated Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost on his election as the 267th Pope, Pope Leo XIV, and expressed appreciation for his inaugural peace message.
“The peace message from Pope Leo XIV is a universal call that we must strive for, working together to build a more peaceful future,” Umar stated on Friday.

Pope Leo XIV, elected on May 7, 2025, is the first Pope from the United States and the Order of Saint Augustine, succeeding Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21, 2025. Minister Umar praised Pope Leo XIV’s commitment to continuing the legacy of Pope Francis, particularly the Istiqlal Declaration signed in September 2024, which focused on interfaith diplomacy and global challenges.
Umar expressed hope that Pope Leo XIV would strengthen the commitment to interfaith dialogue and environmental sustainability for a more humane and socially equitable world. (BL/ANTARA)
