PKS then officially designated its presidential candidate to be supported in the 2024 Presidential Election (Pilpres), which is Anies Baswedan, following the footsteps of the NasDem Party which had declared the former Governor of Jakarta as their presidential candidate for 2024.

“The discussion has narrowed down to the fact that the figure being referred to is Anies Rasyid Baswedan,” said PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu at the PKS DPP.

“After the decision of the Eighth Council’s Musyawarah Majelis Syuro, I instructed the structures, members, and sympathizers of PKS throughout Indonesia to introduce and socialize Brother Anies Rasyid Baswedan to all corners of the country as the PKS’s presidential candidate,” said Syaikhu.

PKS declared Anies Baswedan as their presidential candidate for 2024 after the Musyawarah Majelis Syuro PKS held its deliberation. This declaration was made one day before the PKS held its national working meeting (rakernas).

Long Journey to Choose Anies

Ahmad Syaikhu revealed the lengthy process that PKS went through to select Anies Baswedan as their presidential candidate for 2024. PKS went through several stages before ultimately choosing Anies as their candidate.

“Of course, we realize that the process of searching for a presidential candidate for the Republic of Indonesia in PKS is a very long process and has been carefully considered,” said Ahmad Syaikhu.

In that lengthy process, PKS received input from all regions. PKS asked regions about the 2024 presidential candidate.

“The DPP also listened to inputs from all regions in the country. From Sabang to Merauke, we asked about the aspirations that were developing in the regions and areas,” he said.

Moreover, PKS also asked for the opinion of figures throughout Indonesia in determining the 2024 presidential candidate. Eventually, PKS selected Anies Baswedan as their presidential candidate for 2024.

“The DPP also went around to various regions to ask for input in political kinship from various community figures in the country,” Syaikhu added.

Anies’ Blue Blood

Ahmad Syaikhu also mentioned Anies Baswedan’s blue blood. Syaikhu initially mentioned three criteria for PKS presidential candidates. He said that one of them is to have a nationalist-religious character.

“Then the second criteria is that the person should be a symbol of change. We will continue the goodness of today and then innovate to achieve perfection, and the third is that the chance of winning should also be high,” said Syaikhu.

Syaikhu said that these three criteria were developed in the Seventh Majelis Syura (Advisory Council Meeting) forum. And, it was concluded that the person who met these criteria was Anies Baswedan.

“We believe that the 3 parameters that became guidance in the Seventh MMS are possessed by Anies Baswedan,” said Syaikhu.
