Asian Games: Amellya Nur Sifa clinches gold for Indonesia in BMX

Hangzhou, Indonesianpost.com – Indonesian rider Amellya Nur Sifa claimed a gold medal at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, in the women’s BMX racing on Sunday.

Sifa collected a total of 6 points from three moto runs. She actually had the same points as the Chinese rider, Gu Quanquan, who earned an overall second-place finish and took the silver medal after losing to Sifa in the run 3.

In run 1, Sifa finished with a time of 44.065 seconds and placed in third position, while Quanquan clocked the fastest time of 42.483 seconds.

In run 2, Sifa came second with a time of 43.290 seconds, while her closest competitor, Quanquan, finished first with a time of 41.827 seconds.

However, in run 3, the Indonesian rider managed to finish with the fastest time of 43.918 seconds. Meanwhile, Quanquan only finished in fourth place with a time of 44.964 seconds.

Sifa became the Indonesian first female BMX rider who win gold at the Asian Games since the sports event was contested in 2010.

Indonesia also took bronze in the women’s BMX racing through Jasmine Azzahra Setyobudi.

“During the final, we had to compete in terms of strategy, we had to put the riders in the right position. Thank God, the strategy really worked, and China couldn’t do anything,” said Dadang Haries Purnomo, head coach of the Indonesian national cycling team.
