Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Mataram City in West Nusa Tenggara experienced hotel occupancy rates exceeding expectations during the MotoGP Indonesia event held from October 3 to 5 at the Mandalika Circuit, local tourism officials reported.

Cahya Samudra, head of Mataram Tourism Service, stated that hotel occupancy reached a full 100 percent, surpassing the original target of 80 percent, according to data from the Mataram Hotel Association (AHM).

“Although Mataram City functions as a buffer zone, the hotel occupancy rate still climbed to 100 percent,” said Samudra.

I Made Adiyasa Kurniawan, chairperson of AHM, added that occupancy soared beyond 100 percent on October 4, the day preceding the race. Three- and four-star hotels were fully booked, while one- and two-star hotels approached a 90 percent booking rate.

Kurniawan noted that this year’s occupancy figures matched those of the previous MotoGP event but observed that reservations were made closer to race days compared to before. Occupancy levels steadily rose from 80 percent on October 3 to 90 percent on October 4 and hit the maximum 100 percent mark on race day, October 5.

Moreover, he highlighted that room rates this year were significantly lower than those set during the 2024 MotoGP. Last year’s governor regulation permitted hotels near Mandalika to triple prices and those in Mataram and Senggigi to double them; however, no such rate hikes were implemented this year.

Deputy Tourism Minister Ni Luh Puspa earlier affirmed that the 2025 MotoGP event brought considerable economic gains, estimating its contribution to the local economy at approximately Rp4.8 trillion (around US$288 million). (Antara/Bilah)
