- Jakarta’s Imlek Festival 2026 features lanterns, food, arts, and a parade with barongsai legends Kong Ha Hong, fresh off world titles in China and Indonesia.
The world champion barongsai team, Kong Ha Hong, is set to take the stage at the government’s national Imlek 2026 celebration.
Coach Andri Wijaya announced that the Kong Ha Hong barongsai team will perform as part of the Sabang Merauke showcase during the event.
“We’re collaborating with the Sabang Merauke showcase—they’re blending our barongsai performance with traditional Indonesian dances,” Andri said during a training session at the team’s base in West Jakarta on Tuesday (Feb. 3).
Andri noted that Kong Ha Hong has previously teamed up with the Sabang Merauke group.
That prior experience has helped the team quickly grasp the performance concept and prepare effectively.
The Kong Ha Hong barongsai team has clinched the world title five times: in China in 2009, Indonesia in 2014, China in 2015, Indonesia in 2017, and China again in 2019.
Andri expressed delight at the opportunity for Kong Ha Hong to perform at the National Imlek Celebration 2026.
“Of course we’re thrilled—we get to perform in front of the president and showcase this for all Indonesians,” he said.
The government plans to host the Imlek Festival from February 17 to March 3, 2026, in Jakarta to mark the Lunar New Year.
The event will feature lantern festivals, culinary showcases, arts performances, and a parade highlighting barongsai.
