Deputy Foreign Minister (Wamenlu) Anis Matta has reaffirmed Indonesia’s readiness to play a role in strengthening solidarity across the Islamic world on the international stage, as shifting global geopolitics and shared challenges demand closer cooperation.

“Indonesia, as the world’s largest Muslim-majority country that is democratic, stable and strategically autonomous, stands ready to build partnerships in addressing the challenges facing the Islamic world,” Anis said in a written statement from the Foreign Ministry on Friday.

Anis delivered the remarks at a seminar titled “Indonesia and Integration into the Islamic World: New Roadmap”, jointly organized by the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo and the Al Hewar Center for Political and Media Studies in Cairo, Egypt, on Wednesday (Feb. 4).

At the forum, Anis pointed to fragmentation within the Islamic world and declining trust in global governance, arguing that the moment calls for solutions rooted in togetherness, partnership and strategic self-reliance.

He therefore urged Muslim-majority countries to reinvigorate a spirit of collective action in responding to global geopolitical dynamics and the weakening of international governance, while stressing that Indonesia is prepared to help advance that agenda.

Anis also said the values of Pancasila remain relevant to offer the Islamic world amid a global transition marked by conflict, uncertainty and systemic turmoil.

He went on to outline Indonesia’s journey in shaping its national identity through Pancasila, which is grounded in the principles of belief in God, humanitarianism, unity, deliberation and social justice.

“That process has shaped Indonesia into a Muslim-majority nation that is democratic, modern and stable, and able to contribute at the regional and global levels,” he said.

The seminar, he added, received a positive response from participants, including academics and diplomatic practitioners in Cairo.

Participants said Indonesia has strong potential to help strengthen integration across the Islamic world, with Egypt viewed as a strategic partner to help connect with Africa and other Muslim-majority countries.

The seminar also produced a number of recommendations, including strengthening cooperation among think tanks, expanding media collaboration and translation initiatives to promote positive narratives about Islam, Indonesia and South-South cooperation.
