Jakarta — Indonesian women’s doubles prospects Isyana Syahira Meida and Rinjani Kwinnara Nastine conceded the superior composure of Japan’s top seeds Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi, falling 12-21, 21-12, 17-21 in a hard-fought quarterfinal clash at the Thailand Open 2026 in Bangkok on Friday.
The Indonesian duo admitted they spent much of the match under intense duress, struggling to find answers to the aggressive attacking patterns deployed by the tournament’s highest-ranked pair.
“We were quite overwhelmed and lost our rhythm, especially in the opening game. Fortunately, we managed to play with more composure, relaxation, and focus in the second game. Entering the decider, the score was neck-and-neck, but we have to admit they were simply steadier in handling the pressure during the critical final points,” Isyana said, as quoted by the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI).
Nevertheless, Rinjani noted that Iwanaga and Nakanishi were far from invincible, pointing out that the Japanese favorites also showed signs of nerves and failed to play at their clinical best during several key moments.
It was a source of regret for Rinjani, who lamented their inability to capitalize on those tense moments to wrest control of the scoreboard.
“We failed to seize our chances in the third game, which allowed them to regain control of the match right at the very end,” Rinjani added.
Despite bowing out in the last eight, Isyana and Rinjani remained satisfied with their overall campaign, given the grueling draw they had to navigate since the opening round of the BWF Super 500 tournament.
“Alhamdulillah [Praise be to God], we were able to reach the quarterfinals because we faced tough opponents right from the first round. This is a result we must be grateful for. However, we are determined to learn from this experience, and hopefully, we can secure a better result at the Malaysia Masters next week,” Rinjani concluded.
