Jakarta – A Malaysian hiker who fell while descending Mount Rinjani has been evacuated by helicopter and is now receiving medical treatment in Denpasar, Bali. Authorities confirmed the victim is under intensive hospital care.
Deputy for Operations at the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), Edy Prakoso, said the victim was transported to a hospital in Bali following an emergency evacuation.
“The victim, who fell while descending from the summit toward Pelawangan, was evacuated by helicopter to a hospital in Bali for intensive medical treatment,” Edy said, as quoted by Antara on Wednesday (May 27, 2026).
Edy explained that the incident occurred on Monday (May 25), when the Malaysian tourist reportedly lost the ability to move after the fall.
The victim was initially evacuated manually by porters and trekking guides to Pelawangan 2 Sembalun.
In response to the report, rescue teams from the Kayangan SAR Post and the Mataram SAR Office were immediately deployed. A commercial helicopter from Denpasar was also mobilized to accelerate the emergency response.
However, upon arriving at the location on Monday afternoon, the air evacuation was delayed due to thick fog covering the mountain area. The helicopter was forced to return to base for safety reasons, while the victim’s condition was stabilized in an emergency tent.
Improved weather conditions on Tuesday morning allowed the helicopter to resume operations. It departed from Sembalun field at 08:05 WITA, reached the pickup point, and transported the victim to Bali at 08:17 WITA.
The Mataram SAR Office confirmed that the helicopter landed at Benoa helipad in Bali at 09:05 WITA. The victim was then transferred by ambulance to Inmedika Sanur Hospital in South Denpasar through coordinated efforts involving joint rescue teams, the Mount Rinjani National Park Agency (TNGR), local authorities, and community SAR units.
