DENPASAR, INDONESIAN POST – The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Badung regency, Bali, has deported an Indian national after discovering that the traveler held two passports bearing different identities.

“Our officers detected irregularities in the passport presented, then conducted further checks that revealed another passport under a different identity,” Ngurah Rai Immigration Office head Muhamad Novyandri said in Denpasar, Bali, on Saturday.

Officers discovered the discrepancy as the Indian national, identified only by the initials SP, was preparing to leave Bali for Manila, the Philippines, on Wednesday, October 14.

During departure checks, SP presented a passport different from the one used to enter Bali. Immigration officers then took SP aside for questioning.

An examination by an immigration forensic laboratory also indicated that the biographical data page in one of the passports may have been replaced.

Following those findings, the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office deported SP on Tuesday, October 27.

SP left on a flight to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, for an onward journey to Chennai, India.

Novyandri said the discovery underscored the importance of officers carefully examining every travel document when international passengers arrive and depart.

“This case shows that immigration checks take place not only when foreign nationals enter Indonesia, but also when they leave the country,” Novyandri said.

He stressed that using fraudulent travel documents was a serious violation that would not be tolerated.

The Ngurah Rai Immigration Office continues to improve its document inspection capabilities and strengthen coordination with other agencies at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, he added.

“Bali is one of Indonesia’s main gateways. We want to ensure that everyone passing through uses valid travel documents. Strict checks are not intended to make travel more difficult, but to maintain security and public order,” he said.
