Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, Indonesia and Austria are exploring potential collaboration in vocational training and human resource development, according to the Ministry of Manpower on Thursday.

“Austria is renowned for its robust vocational training system, which is closely aligned with industry needs. We believe this partnership will create new opportunities to improve the competence of Indonesia’s workforce,” said Manpower Minister Yassierli.

In a meeting with Austrian Ambassador Thomas Loidl, Yassierli emphasized the importance of vocational cooperation as part of a broader effort to upskill workers and enhance global competitiveness.

He pointed out that Austria’s industry-based vocational training system could serve as a valuable model for Indonesia’s job training programs.

Yassierli also proposed an apprenticeship scheme that would allow graduates from Indonesia’s Vocational Training Centers (BLKs) to undergo training in Austrian industries for two to three years.

He explained that Indonesia currently sends workers abroad through two main channels: as migrant workers and as interns. He stressed that any internship program must prioritize worker protection.

“This is not just about job placement – it’s about enhancing the capacity of our national workforce,” he said.

The minister also discussed the possibility of expanding the number of BLKs in Indonesia with support from Austria and welcomed ideas for vocational training exchanges.

Ambassador Loidl responded positively, stating that Austria is ready to host 100 to 200 Indonesian interns annually, especially in the hospitality sector.

“We see Indonesia as a strategic partner in workforce development, and many Austrian companies are eager to recruit Indonesian interns,” Loidl said.

He also mentioned that Austria had previously supported the development of BLKs through loan schemes and is now considering additional forms of support, including grants. (BL)
