Jakarta – Indonesia and India are exploring closer cooperation in higher education, particularly in business and economics, as both countries seek to expand access to quality education and strengthen international academic ties.

The issue was discussed when Higher Education, Science and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto received Indian Ambassador to Indonesia Sandeep Chakravorty and a delegation from the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore at the ministry’s office on Wednesday.

Brian welcomed the proposed partnership, saying Indonesia saw strong potential for wider internationalization in higher education through collaboration between universities from the two countries, especially in business and economics.

“We hope universities in Indonesia and India can work together in a range of joint programs, particularly research in business and economics,” Brian said in a statement released in Jakarta on Thursday.

Chakravorty said the plan to expand cooperation reflected a long-term commitment to strengthening higher education and developing human resources in both countries.

IIM Bangalore Director Dinesh Kumar Unnikrishna said the institution was a research-based business school, adding that the cooperation would focus on strategic areas such as digital transformation, artificial intelligence and the development of a modern business ecosystem.

The meeting also discussed opportunities to expand education programs through the opening of a master of business administration program in Indonesia.

Through the initiative, the ministry expects Indonesia-India cooperation to not only strengthen the capacity of higher education institutions, but also help foster a more innovative, adaptive and globally competitive learning ecosystem.
