Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has said that the city’s weekly Car-Free Day (CFD), officially known as Hari Bebas Kendaraan Bermotor (HBKB), is attracting not only local residents but also visitors from neighboring countries such as Singapore and Malaysia.

“Many people gather, meet up, and plan their activities around Car-Free Day. We are also seeing visitors from abroad, especially from Singapore and Malaysia, who make time to join CFD before returning to their home countries,” Pramono said during a visit to East Jakarta on Friday.

He noted that CFD has evolved beyond its initial purpose of reducing air pollution. According to him, the program has now become one of Jakarta’s emerging urban tourism attractions.

Pramono expressed optimism that the planned rollout of CFD along Rasuna Said in South Jakarta would offer a new alternative for residents seeking weekend outdoor activities. The initiative is expected to complement the existing CFD route along Sudirman–Thamrin.

“I believe Car-Free Day in Rasuna Said, or the Kuningan area, will become a new favorite spot for Jakarta residents. People will have options, whether they prefer Sudirman–Thamrin or Rasuna Said. The Rasuna Said loop is approximately 7 kilometers, while Sudirman to the endpoint is around 10 kilometers, so there are varied choices for the public,” he said.

He added that the ongoing revitalization of the Rasuna Said corridor is nearing completion and is targeted to be officially inaugurated during Jakarta’s anniversary celebrations.

According to Pramono, the development has reached around 95 percent completion. He expressed hope that the improved infrastructure would provide a more comfortable experience compared to earlier trial runs.

“We hope this will encourage people in Jakarta to enjoy running, jogging, and adopting healthier lifestyles. More importantly, Car-Free Day has become a space for social interaction and community bonding,” he said.
