JAKARTA, INDONESIAN POST — The Indonesian government officially declared on Sunday that this year’s Eid al-Adha will fall on May 27, concluding a formal religious deliberation with prominent Islamic clerics and scholars.
Widely known as the Festival of Sacrifice, Eid al-Adha stands as one of the most revered dates on the Islamic calendar. It is a time when financially capable Muslims observe the tradition of sacrificing livestock—such as cattle or goats—and distributing the meat to underprivileged communities.
“It has been mutually agreed that the 10th of Dzulhijjah, which marks Eid al-Adha, will fall on Wednesday, May 27, 2026,” Religious Affairs Minister Nasaruddin Umar announced during the government’s isbat (confirmation) meeting, a formal moon-sighting session held in Jakarta.
Nasaruddin emphasized that this decree provides a definitive guideline for Muslims across the archipelago to commence their Dzulhijjah religious observances. This includes the voluntary fasting period leading up to the holy day, ensuring a unified and synchronized celebration nationwide.
“We hold a collective hope that this momentum will further foster a spirit of unity and solidarity among the Muslim community,” the minister added.
