JAKARTA, INDONESIAN POST — Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko led an immigration supervision operation targeting foreign nationals at the Kalibata City apartment complex in South Jakarta from Wednesday night to early Thursday, October 21 to 22, 2026.

During the operation, officers recorded hundreds of foreign residents and took 45 people to the Directorate General of Immigration for further questioning.

“This operation is part of our routine supervision and also a response to public complaints about activities by foreign nationals that have become disruptive and caused concern,” Hendarsam said in a written statement on Thursday, October 22, 2026. “We are ensuring that the presence and activities of foreign nationals in Indonesia comply with their permits and applicable laws.”

Hendarsam said immigration teams arrived at the location at around 7 p.m. Western Indonesia Time.

At the site, officers verified identity documents and residence permit status, and checked whether the foreign nationals’ activities matched the permits they held.

Based on initial data collection involving residents with refugee status, officers recorded 88 foreign nationals holding protection documents from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, or UNHCR, as well as certificates stating that their documents had been lost.

“This group was dominated by Somali nationals, with 55 people, followed by Afghanistan with 16, Iraq with 10, Sudan with five, as well as several residents from Pakistan, Yemen and Turkey,” he said.

Hendarsam said that, apart from the refugee group, immigration officers separated 45 foreign nationals for further examination at the Directorate General of Immigration.

He said the group consisted of 41 holders of Foreign Investment Limited Stay Permits, known as ITAS PMA; one holder of a Visit Stay Permit, or ITK C22; two people suspected of overstaying, from Yemen and Palestine; and one person without clear identification, known only by the initials AY.

The 45 foreign nationals undergoing further questioning were from Somalia, with 25 people; Pakistan, with nine; Kenya, with three; Senegal, with two; and one each from Ethiopia, Nigeria, Liberia, Yemen and Palestine.

Hendarsam said officers were still verifying the authenticity of the documents, residence permit status and whether the activities of ITAS PMA holders in the field matched the permits they had been granted.

“The further examination is still ongoing. If we find violations of residence permits or misuse of documents, we will process the cases in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations,” he said. “This is our effort to be present amid public concern, in line with the spirit of Immigration for the People.”
