OIKN Uses Nusantara Food Festival to Promote Anti-Plastic Awareness
North Penajam Paser, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, The Nusantara Capital Authority (OIKN) is raising awareness about reducing single-use plastic through a culinary festival held in North Penajam Paser District, East Kalimantan — the site for Indonesia’s new capital.
“Our aim is to encourage both vendors and visitors to reduce plastic packaging in their daily activities,” said Myrna Asnawati Safitri, OIKN’s Deputy for Environment and Natural Resources, during the event in Sepaku, North Penajam Paser, on Sunday.
She explained that the initiative primarily targets newcomers to the future capital, especially civil servants.
The culinary festival featured dozens of booths offering local dishes while promoting the use of eco-friendly packaging, contributing to the creation of cleaner, healthier public spaces free from plastic waste.
In addition to the food stalls, the event included a children’s coloring contest, live music, and culinary training for visitors interested in pursuing a career in the food and beverage sector.

“Educational messages are often better received in a relaxed, interactive setting,” Safitri said.
She also noted that the festival aimed to strengthen connections between local residents and civil servants.
The OIKN plans to host the festival regularly to stimulate economic activity while fostering a vibrant and livable urban environment for Nusantara’s residents.
Future editions of the festival may be held in different locations, with the possibility of adopting the concept of temporary street markets, similar to those in other countries.
Safitri reaffirmed the OIKN’s commitment to the development of Nusantara, not only in infrastructure but also in human capital, with dedicated spaces for local micro, small, and medium enterprises within community-driven activities.
Aneke Wuisang, a participant in the culinary training, expressed her appreciation for the event: “We are grateful for the opportunity to join this activity. It’s not only economically beneficial but also provides valuable insights into entrepreneurship.” (BL)
