Palembang, Indonesianpost.com – Reported by Antara, The South Sumatra Cooperatives and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Office has helped approximately 300 MSMEs in the province obtain halal certification, with plans to continue supporting more until July 2025.

“Some MSMEs receive free halal certification assistance, while others are simply provided with guidance,” stated Amiruddin, Head of the South Sumatra Cooperatives and MSMEs Office, during a meeting in Palembang on Saturday.

He clarified that MSMEs were offered free self-declared halal certification, which applies to products that consist of a single, easily identifiable food item, ensuring its halal status can be easily verified.

On the other hand, MSMEs seeking regular halal certification for businesses like restaurants or catering services that offer a variety of foods must cover the costs themselves, though the office provides assistance to help meet certification requirements.

“We encourage MSMEs to secure halal certification for their products. This certification is essential to build customer trust, especially in our province, which consists of 17 districts and cities,” he added.

Amiruddin also urged local MSMEs to prepare their application files and necessary documents promptly to ensure the approval of their halal certification applications.

Halal certification is crucial as the Indonesian government mandates that all MSMEs nationwide must obtain halal certification by 2026. (BL)
