Prabowo Subianto Meets Macron at Élysée Palace to Strengthen Bilateral Ties

JAKARTA – President Prabowo Subianto continued his high-level diplomatic tour on Tuesday by meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Palace in Paris. The meeting, held on April 14, 2026, marks a significant step in strengthening the strategic partnership between Southeast Asia’s largest economy and the European power.

According to a statement released by the Presidential Secretariat, President Prabowo’s arrival at the Élysée was marked by a formal state welcome. President Macron personally greeted his Indonesian counterpart, accompanied by a French Guard of Honor. The military honors were rendered as a symbolic gesture of friendship and high regard for the Indonesian leader’s visit.

In a cordial atmosphere, the two heads of state shared a handshake and engaged in a brief conversation before proceeding to the next stage of the agenda. Prabowo and Macron then moved to the Salon des Portraits for a private, tête-à-tête meeting.

The closed-door discussion served as a strategic forum for the leaders to deliberate on the enhancement of bilateral cooperation across several priority sectors. Beyond economic and defense ties, Prabowo and Macron also exchanged views on the rapidly evolving global geopolitical landscape.

The diplomatic engagement continued with an official luncheon, aimed at fostering personal rapport between the two leaders and solidifying the foundation of the Indonesia-France partnership.

This visit to Paris is a critical component of President Prabowo’s broader diplomatic circuit. It follows a series of intensive meetings with other world leaders, including his recent high-profile discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
