Jakarta, Indonesianpost.com – Presidential candidate Anies Baswedan emphasized that elections are not about continuing the same trajectory but rather about determining who will be the leader for the next five years.

He made this statement during a gathering at the Pajajaran Sports Hall in Bogor, where he attended a halal bihalal event organized by the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS). Anies stated that elections are a process of charting the course toward the nation’s goals and rectifying any deviations.

“When it comes to elections, it’s not about continuing or discontinuing what has been done in the past. Elections are about paving the way towards the goal of justice for this republic,” Anies said on Sunday (June 11, 2023).

Anies expressed his hope that there would be no concerns regarding the continuation or discontinuation of current government programs. He stressed that the most crucial aspect is determining who will lead the country for the next five years after the 2024 elections.

“So, there’s no need to worry because the objective is not to dwell on the past five, ten, or fifteen years. The goal is for us to pause every five years, determine our direction, and decide who will be entrusted with leading this team for the next five years,” Anies explained.

Additionally, the former Governor of Jakarta touched upon the significance of justice. He believed that justice should be an integral part of every policy decision made by the government.

“If you ask about the changes we bring, it’s not about personal interests or mere continuation. The change lies in incorporating the principles of justice and equality into every policy we formulate,” Anies stated.

“We hope that by doing so, there will be continuity and change. It is not sufficient to continue without any transformations, but it is the element of justice that demands our attention,” he added.
